A Bunch of Chickens

13 October 2010

Have you ever been on a farm and found yourself surrounded by a bunch of chickens, clucking and tripping over each other? Feed them a few grains of corn and they go into an absolute frenzy, cackling, flapping their wings, and crowding at your feet.

On the other hand, consider the graceful, majestic eagle.

Eagles live rather solitary lives. Their flight is smooth and easy, purposeful, and seemingly effortless. Eagles dwell in high places and nest on the tops of trees and mountains.

This is certainly not a new thought, but what a great reminder for our Christian walk! While others may flutter madly over a few grains dispensed by the latest spiritual guru or best-selling Christian author, we are called to climb away to solitary places and find strength in being alone with God.

We can soar while others flap and cackle.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
